I have to admit, that while I love cloth diapers probably more than one Human being should, I hadn't yet found that wool love. I know you know what I am talking about! So many cloth diaper users swear by it, but I just hadn't got caught up in it yet. Until I found Nifty Nappy and they dragged me into the dark side! I have to also admit that I had thought cleaning wool was a huge pain in the you-know-what, but it really isn't! Let me share what I learned with you and maybe I will drag you into the wool dark side too!
Nifty Nappy was founded by a Mama named Vilate, who cloth diapered her own babies and with recurrent rashes, wanted to find something that was better for them. She started making her own diapers, and then found organic fibers like hemp and bamboo, as well as wool! Did you know that Organic Hemp and Bamboo are naturally anti-microbial and antibacterial. Yep, they sure are and those are the bonuses to them being Organic! So this brilliant Mama invented the Nifty Nappy fitted diaper, PeachyKeen pocket diapers, Snappy SwimzEaze, Nifty Knickers, SuperDuper Soakers, and Woolie Wraps! Here is a picture of a Nifty Nappy:
This is the 100% Organic Nifty Nappy and I want it soooooooo badly! Look how cute!
I had the pleasure of reviewing a custom pair of Nifty Knickers! All of the Nifty Knickers are custom-made for a perfect fit for your little ones! Wait, ok, so what are Nifty Knickers? They are wool upcycled longies. They are made out of old wool sweaters! Recycling at it's best. Take something old and make it something amazing. And she sure does! My longies, are actually shorties. You guessed it, instead of pants, I opted for shorts because I live in the hot Arizona Desert and I would be crazy to put my baby in wool longies(pants). They are made out of an old wool Gap sweater and she even left the Gap tag on the inside! So cute! I also love the details of the leg openings! She made them almost ruffly and it definitely adds a girlish touch! Vilate got my baby's measurements from me, and while I may have been confused and a total newbie when it comes to wool, she did not make me feel stupid. Instead she made me feel like an old friend. I got phenomenal customer service from her!
My baby girl looks so ridiculously cute in these shorties. I find myself developing a serious obsession for wool and that could be a huge problem for our wallet! These were my first pair of shorties but they wont be my last! I need to get a picture of her in them in the morning, but here is a snapshot of what they look like not on a baby bum:
And here is a picture I snagged of her!
Let's talk about wool care for a second. Nifty Nappy has a great page on their website all about wool care and I do what they do!
I wash my wool in lukewarm water with a few squirts of a natural wool wash that I picked up. Next I fill a bowl with lukewarm water and add my woolies. I dissolve 1 tsp of lanolin per woolie in a cup with almost boiling water and I add the same amount of wool wash to emulsify the lanolin. When you do all this, it will look milky white. Add this mixture to your bowl of water and woolies and stir it all up. I wash my woolies inside out because that is where the lanolin is supposed to go. I also followed Nifty Nappy's instructions and left the legs of my shorties hanging outside the bowl because they dont need the lanolin and apparently it attracts dirt while playing. Ick. I don't need any other dirt magnets besides my own kids! I then let them soak overnight. The next morning I throw them in the washer on the spin cycle to get all the water out and then let them dry outside all day long. Wahla! Lanolized woolies. Can you believe this only needs to be done once a month?! I thought the care of wool was hard until I learned this little fact. The lanolin turns the urine to salt, so there is no odor. Wool is also a natural antibacterial material so there are no smells because there is no bacteria. Oh nature how I love you.
Thanks to Nifty Nappy, I have fallen in love with wool and all of their other cute items too! And my favorite part is that a pair of custom longies will only cost you $20.00! Such a great price! Do you want to try one of her PeachyKeen pocket diapers? They are only $22.00! That is amazing for a diaper that will last you from beginning to end! I highly recommend Nifty Nappy diapers.
