I think most parents at some point in their life have to travel with children. I am very used to flying with little ones because my Husband's family lives in Pennsylvania my family lives in Arizona and my mom lived in Nevada. We have done a ton of traveling from one state or another and I cannot tell you how important it is to be organized on a plane. I have searched high and low for quality backpacks, messenger bags, diaper bags, etc. You name it and I have tried it. I always come back to using a backpack. It is amazing to be able to throw it on your back and have two hands free! We were going on a trip to visit my Husband's family this past April, and I was desperate to find a backpack that would work for us. Lucky for me I was going to be working with High Sierra on a backpack review! The sad part is, it didn't get to us in time. High Sierra still saved the day though! We ran to our local Ross and picked up a different High Sierra backpack to use! We were able to organize all of our diaper bag items in this backpack. There were tons of pockets, and it was very high quality! Everything I wanted and expected, I got.
Fast forward to us getting back from our trip and receiving the High Sierra Spire 2500 Backpack. This bad boy has it all! It is made more for really outdoorsy types of people, as it has straps to attach skis or a snowboard, but this works perfectly for us on a hike! It's not bulky at all, it just has straps to attach those items if you would want to! Let me give you a run down of all the Spire features:
- 25-liter, panel-load main compartment
- Single, contoured aluminum frame bar can be adjusted to fit the shape of your back
- Quick-release, adjustable, tuck-away webbing straps for vertical snowboard carry
- Adjustable webbing straps on top and bottom for diagonal ski carry
- Large, zippered front pocket holds a shovel blade and essential snow tools
- Internal hydration reservoir sleeve and insulated hydration tube pocket on the backpack strap helps keep water from freezing(You can purchase this water reservoir separately and it is not included)
- S-shaped backpack straps with high density foam padding(VERY comfortable!)
- Adjustable sternum strap stabilizes pack
- Moisture-wicking neoprene-padded back panel
- Webbing daisy chain to attach extra gear
- Removable media pocket on backpack strap
- Soft lashing hardware holds ice ax/hiking poles
- Dual side pockets hold 1000 ml water bottles
All of these features are amazing if you are an avid skier or snow boarder, but they also rock if you live in the Arizona desert like I do and like to hike! I love taking this with us on hikes or to the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum. This holds all the items I need for my kids, plus plenty of snacks and a ton of water bottles. Being able to wear this comfortably on my back is ideal for long hikes and walks. We love to include our children on these walks because we want them to learn about the Arizona Desert, not be afraid of it like I was as a kid! I think the best way to combat fear is to educate yourself, so that it what I did and that is what I want for my children! Taking hikes and learning about the desert wildlife and plant life is crucial. Now I have a backpack that is ideal to bring along with me! I love being able to wear if for long periods of time because the straps are so comfortable and the frame gives you added support!
High Sierra has the best customer service the the highest quality products! Of course they have a whole variety of backpacks, but they also have duffel bags and luggage pieces! I highly recommend High Sierra products to everyone I know. The backpacks seem to last forever, which might be a bad thing for them!
You can purchase the Spire 2500 backpack and many other pieces by finding a retailer on the High Sierra website!
