The Oil Spill

I know this topic is all over the place, but what is your opinion? Maybe I'm opening a can of worms! I wanted to share a couple of links with you though. One is very funny, but also sad at the same time. I found myself laughing because I can imagine idiot BP execs acting like this.

The second is the newest article I found today about the size of the spill. It made me want to cry.

First the funny:

Then the Super sad:

Also, check this out. It has nothing to do with the oil spill, but is absolutely horrible. Monsanto is a horrible, evil company.

I highly recommend everyone watch the movie Food Inc. It streams on Netflix if you have it!

  1. My husband showed me the Youtube video the other night. That is hilarious!

I hadn't seen a map before of the oil spill. I just feel really SAD about the whole thing.

  2. So, is it just me, or has "Monsanto" become a new dirty word? Everything they do is so scary!

  3. The oil spill is really sad. My family used to take deep-sea fishing trips to that part of the Gulf when I was a child. Now it looks like I won't be able to do that with my children.

At the same time, everyone is so quick to blame BP and the government for this mess, and I am by no means exonerating them. But in a way this is everybody's fault to some extent. We have structured our lives around oil dependence, zoned cities in a way that necessitates cars, and praised economic growth without subtracting the costs of environmental degradation. Sure some of us are trying to become less oil dependent (walking or biking when we can, using cloth diapers, buying local foods), but I think for the majority of Americans the oil spill is just an inconvenience and the fault of somebody else.

  4. Kacy, I completely agree with you. Well said! This is what happens when people push for off shore drilling instead of finding other energy sources, like gee, our SUN and the WIND.
