Improving Our Whole Family

One of the things we talk to our children about is ways we can improve ourselves. We frequently talk about no one being perfect and we all have our strengths and weaknesses. It's okay to throw an occasional tantrum, it's okay to get angry, it's okay to cry. Being able to control our emotions is still a very important thing to learn. We can get angry without hurting another person. We can be frustrated without saying things that will hurt others' feelings.

Today was a day that I needed to be reminded of self improvement. For some reason, today was just harder than normal. I had to practice patience and there were a couple of times I forgot to remind myself. The thing is, I talk to my kids about ME not being perfect either. And when we aren't perfect, we always talk it out and apologize. My kids know I will always forgive them and they will always forgive me.

We decided to write 3 things we can each work on on our white board in the school room. We agreed to leave it up for awhile and remind each other of the things we need to improve upon. I wanted to share what we all came up with together.

Michael - My 7 Year Old Son
1) Focusing! - This is his number 1 by far. Sometimes I get so frustrated at his lack of focus. He is also 7 and learning, so we get through those moments one at a time.
2) Drink more water - A major one for him. He gets migraines and it's because the kid forgets to drink!
3) Talking - He came up with this one on his own, which was HUGE. He sometimes has a hard time saying how he is feeling or he wont talk to me about things.

Violet - My 5 Year Old Daughter
1) Listening - She is her mother's daughter lol and stubborn as all heck. My husband always says we are going to fight a lot when she is a teenager. I hope he's wrong. I always say someday she will be a strong woman but it's gonna be a rough road getting there. She really needs to work on ignoring me and doing what she wants anyways.
2) Bathroom - She was my nightmare child to potty train and while she is potty trained, her bathroom habits need some work for sure lol. We will leave it at that.
3) Tattling - Because she is her mother's daughter, I know she does this for attention. She constantly needs recognition that she is doing good and she loves to point out when others are not doing good. We are working on this. We are working on encouraging others and tattling less.

Josie - My 3 Year Old Daughter
1) Screaming - I always say it's terrible 3s not terrible 2s and she is proving this to be correct for me for the 3rd time! She is a shrieker lately. I remind her to breathe, calm down and use the words we taught her!
2) Hurting - The only one of our children so far that has felt the need to harm another person. She gets upset, doesn't use her words and harms. We are definitely working on this and it is never acceptable in our home. I say Josie is my sweetheart 95% of the time and those other 5% is my Darth Josie. lol don't mess with her!
3) Listening - When I am trying to calm you down, Listen! lol stop screaming and hear what I am saying girl! But she is an amazing helper and listens most of the rest of the time.

Mommy - Yes! I had my kids help me come up with 3 things for me. Believe me, these things can be hard to hear, but once again, we teach our kids that no one is perfect and we all need to try harder. They listened to the areas I thought they needed to work on and I listened to theirs. Bless their little hearts.
1) Yelling - I WILL say, I don't yell a ton, but when I do, it's because I've snapped and I have to remind myself to breathe(just like me 3 year old lol). I definitely understand why they want me to improve on this and I am trying to get down to NO yelling. I would hate for them to look back and remember a crazy mommy.
2) Playing - My babies are SO sweet. They tell me I work so hard and I never get to play. So I am resolving to play a lot more! I love these guys.
3) Frustrated - My 7 year old chimed in with this one and he is right. I do get frustrated with him a lot. I get frustrated when he stands there staring at me and wont talk to me, I get frustrated when he cant focus on his school work and I get frustrated when he cant remember what he is supposed to be doing. This is a huge reminder to me that he knows his flaws and he IS trying and I need to not get so frustrated with him. He's doing his best bless his heart. I love how sweet and loving this boy is and I hope he always stays that way. I need to show him that I accept him for who he is, but that we all can try harder.

So there you have it. We didn't come up with any for daddy yet haha, but I think we need to. We also made a column called ALL and these are the things they agreed upon:

- Say I love you
- Help each other
- Encourage
- Hugs and Kisses

I absolutely am the luckiest mom in the whole world and I hope my kids feel like lucky kiddos!

How about you guys? Has anyone else run into this situation?  I know I am not alone! I am just being honest and in this house, that is encouraged 100%.

One thing I have learned along the way is if the way they want to do something isn't going to change the outcome, then let them do it their way and don't fight for it to be done your way! I learned this years ago and it has prevented so many tantrums and arguments!

Lucky for me, my husband was on board and told me to give it a shot. He said I lit up talking about it and I truly feel so happy sharing this opportunity with others. I may still be new to the Scentsy family, but I am already loving the direction it is going.

New Blog and Business Direction!

Hi my loves!

I know I kind of went MIA on this blog. Life just got away from me and I lost my way. The thing is, I really miss blogging and social media in general. I feel like this is my niche and where I belong. I've made a firm decision to blog daily and publish useful content for you guys. I may still do reviews, I may not. I am not sure how I feel about being a review blog anymore. I really want to take this space in a whole new direction. I want to post about my family, who I am, what I love doing and anything I can post that might help others.

I guess that is what it comes down to for me - helping others. I want to be a blessing in peoples' lives, an encouragement. I hope I can be an encouragement through this blog and all other forms of social media I offer. I really want this blog to succeed and I know it can with your guys' help!

As far as my new business directions go, I've signed on with the Scensty company and I am very excited about it. There WILL be Scentsy posts on here, as I really want to be a blessing to anyone looking for information. This company is all about positivity and being generous and gracious with others. I am hoping I can publish useful information and tips for other Scentsy consultants. I signed up with Scentsy not to be rich, but as a hobby and something for me. Being a mom of 4 doesn't leave me with very much me time, as you all know by my blog neglect. But no more. I plan on pouring my heart and soul into this blog, my social media accounts, Scentsy and any other directions I find myself. I really want to open my own Etsy shop and sell bath and body products. Fingers crossed I can accomplish that by the end of the year!

So what does all this mean for my blog and for you guys? Here is a sampling of some of the many themes you will now find on my blog:

Essential Oil Posts - I am obsessed with essential oils right now, they have changed my life. Let me show you how to use them and what recipes kick serious butt.

Paleo Diet - Yes! We are Paleo and loving every second of it. We have only been at it a few months now, but I really want to share this journey as well. I'll share with you the highs and lows of Paleo living and I'll also share some recipes too!

Breastfeeding - I am 100% a breastfeeding advocate! I have breastfed all of my babies for at least a year and the longest was 2 years. I am currently nursing my 12 month old son and we are still going strong. I want to share some of my breastfeeding tips, tricks and sanity savers as well as document my breastmilk donating journey. I am currently pumping up a storm to reach my goal of donating 300 ounces. I would love to share this journey with others and I hope I can inspire someone else to donate breastmilk. It is such a blessing.

You wont be seeing posts begging anyone to buy or sign up, only information. I will post the monthly specials and any tutorials for other Scentsy consultants. I plan on making a Scentsy tab on my blog where these types of posts will be listed. If this is not something you are interested in, please just skip by it.

Cloth Diapering - I will be posting a ton of cloth diapering 101 posts on this blog. I have been cloth diapering for 5 years and I am going strong. Let me introduce you to the types of diapers out there, my favorites, what my stash looks like and the best places to find great deals!

Life is about personal growth, love and helping others and I hope to show all of those things on this blog!

Fairhaven Health Nursing Blend Review

This is my fourth go-around with nursing, but only the first time that I've known that there are vitamins specially formulated for us nursing mamas! I cant begin to tell you how exciting it is to me that someone thought of us. I always wondered if a nursing mom's needs were different from a pregnant mama. After all, both stages in life are nourishing a child. I found out that nursing mamas need more of key nutrients like Vitamin D3. This makes sense considering they recommend Vitamin D supplements for breastfed babies.

How did I find out about vitamins specifically designed for nursing moms? I was introduced to Fairhaven Health's Nursing Blend. They told me about it when I did my PregEase and DreamBelly Butter reviews and I could not wait to have my baby and give it a try! Now that my little guy is four months old, I finally got the chance. I've been taking the Nursing Blend for a month now and I have zero plans to stop. I feel amazing while taking them. I just have to say this is my favorite current vitamin/supplement. And NO, I am not being paid to say that. I honestly mean it!

Like I said earlier, nursing moms DO have different needs than a pregnant mom. We need higher levels of Vitamin D3, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Niacin, and Folic Acid. I definitely believe this, because breastfeeding moms need 500 more calories per day. During pregnancy we only need 300 extra calories. It's a lot of work making nutrient rich milk for our babies! Fairhaven Health kept us in mind and created the perfect blend designed for nursing.

Check out these ingredients:

The unique thing about this blend is that it also contains galactagogues. Not familiar with those? They are lactation enhancers. They help us make more milk. Fairhaven Health Nursing Blend contains a concentrated form of Fenugreek to stimulate milk production, as well as Fennel Seed, Coriander Seed, Anise Seed, Chamomile Flower and Vervain Herb. This would be especially helpful for moms who need to pump. I've been pumping a small stash and I saw a drastic increase after taking this blend. Prior to Nursing Blend, I would get three ounces from both breasts combined in a session. A week after Nursing Blend being in my life and I was able to get six to seven ounces combined each session! Obviously, everyone's results will be different, but these are my results and I am thrilled!

I think it is wonderful to take my vitamins and already have my lactation supports thrown in. I used to take Fenugreek along with my prenatal with my other kids and it was a huge pain. I found myself taking six prenatals and six Fenugreek capsules a day! With the Nursing Blend, I only need to take three a day!

On a personal note, I can really struggle with anxiety due to low Vitamin D levels. I live in Arizona, but we spend a lot of time in the shade or inside. Most multivitamins do not contain enough Vitamin D for me and my doctor recommends at least 2000 iu a day. The nursing blend contains 2800 iu or 700% daily value! That is so amazing, not just for baby, but for mama too! So, as a side note, if you are feeling anxious or depressed, get your Vitamin D levels checked out. I was shocked at how much better I felt once I was on a proper supplement amount. The Fairhaven Health Nursing Blend makes it easy for mama to take care of herself so she can take care of her baby!

I am beyond thrilled with my experience taking the Nursing Blend and you can bet your booty I will be buying more soon!

Get your hands on your own Nursing Blend by heading over to Fairhaven Health. It is $19.95 and free shipping! This is a fabulous price for a high quality vitamin. While you are there, check out their other nursing supplies! I am obsessed with the Nipple Nurture Balm, which sells for $11.95 and is 100% organic! They also sell just a Nursing Postnatal Breastfeeding Multivitamin and a Fenugreek Supplement. I have also heard fabulous things about their Nursing Time Tea, but have not tried it yet.

Birth Story of Lawson James

It all started with me waking up at 5 am on June 10, 2013 to Josie wanting to nurse. She didn't normally ever nurse in the morning like that, but I let her and immediately got contractions. I might have been getting them in my sleep, but I'm not sure. The contractions were around 7 minutes apart consistently. I didn't think anything of it though because I had false labor for the last few nights before this. They were painful, but manageable. Little did I know at the time, but that was Josie's very last nursing session ever. I hold that memory in my heart. I couldn't go back to sleep so I decided to go downstairs and hang out with my husband while he did his homework. I made our grocery list and painted my fingers and toes. The contractions didn't let up, but I had a midwife appointment at 11 am and I just decided to wait and talk to her about my contractions. Once they were 5-6 minutes apart, Jon was really convinced I was in labor, but I was not at all convinced. He was getting SO excited and kept saying we were having a baby that day. I decided to let our friends know what was going on with me since they would be watching the kids for us and they were super excited too. I finished my nails up and had to paint both of my girls' nails too and then we were on our way.

On the way over to our friends house I was still having plenty of contractions and Jon kept commenting about them saying he could tell they were getting worse. We dropped the kids off and headed off to our appointment. We were about 15 minutes late for my appointment and ended up having to wait. We got called back shortly before noon and ended up waiting a little longer to see the midwife too. Baby's heart rate was in the 140s as always, my blood pressure was 110/70 and I still had only gained 15 pounds total for the whole pregnancy. My fundal height was measuring 39 weeks and I was exactly 39 weeks that day. The previous week I was 5-6 cms dilated and baby was NOT engaged in my pelvis. This week she checked me and I was a good 7 cms and 80% effaced and baby was no longer floating. Locked and loaded for sure! I could not believe I was 7 centimeters just walking around not convinced I am in labor! I still did not think I was in labor since contractions were not getting much worse, so I made a comment about going home and what I should do since we live about 45 minutes away. She laughed at me and said, "oh no you aren't going home! You are going to the hospital. Sandra is the midwife on call there today." All I could do was laugh and all Jon did was say I told you so! He was pretty dang proud of himself for telling me all morning we were having a baby. They let the on cal midwife know we were on our way and off we went.

Before we checked into the hospital we had some phone calls to make and I demanded we go get lunch. We stopped at a local sub place here called Eegees and I got a giant grinder sandwich. It turns out I would be VERY happy I chose to eat before heading in. Even though I was 7 cms, I still wasn't convinced we were having a baby because my contractions still weren't getting worse. I knew I didn't want pitocin, so i was nervous to go into the hospital, have labor slow down and then be told I needed pitocin. We texted and called our friends and family from the hospital parking lot so Jon could eat his food and then we headed inside. We signed in, got checked in and were sent directly to a labor and delivery room they had waiting for us. I thought it was so cool I didn't have to go to triage first.

Once in the room, I got to meet our nurse, got changed into a hospital gown and got hooked up to those dang monitors. Sandra, the midwife on call, came to see me and she was as worried as I was about my contractions not being good enough. We had a talk about pitocin versus breaking my water, but going home was really not an option. She told me she couldn't let me go that far away with advanced cervical dilation. She feared I would pop a baby out in the car haha. Before we decided on breaking water versus pitocin, she decided to check me first. I was definitely a 7 and 90%, very soft and baby was at a -1 station. We both agreed I should get on the birth ball and rock for a little bit to see what my body would do on it's own, she also did a membrane sweep. She said it was kind of pointless because of how far dilated I was but that it might stir something up. It was the weirdest feeling. Literally like she swept her finger in a circle. By the time all of this was going on it was about 2 pm. I got on the ball and labored there for about an hour. My contractions steadily got worse but they were not showing up on the monitor and it was making me so mad. These were very intense and I wanted them to believe me not give me pitocin! They were so bad I definitely could not talk through them. Throughout all the labor, the baby was doing amazing on the monitors, but we kept having an issue with the belt sliding off my belly since I was on the birth ball. The nurse and midwife kept having to come into my room to fix it. At one point my midwife looked at me during a contraction and said, " oh yeah, you definitely didn't look like that when you first got here. I dont think you will need pitocin." I told her they were getting worse for sure! Jon had been timing them since they were not showing up on the monitor and they were 3-4 minutes apart lasting for a minute.

I had to get up to go to the bathroom and noticed one heck of a bloody show. My midwife noticed it too and asked me if I would let her check me again. Initially I wanted minimal internal exams, but I was fine with her checking. She checked me and I was a good 8. We decided to go ahead and have her break my water in order to put internal monitors on the baby's scalp. Baby was doing wonderfully, but since the monitors kept slipping, the only way I could stay on the ball was if I had an internal monitor. At one point my nurse told me I was going to have to get in bed and I freaked out. No way in hell! That birth ball was a life saver. There was no way I could just lie there in bed. Every time I had to get in it to be checked I wanted to cry. So, she broke my water and holy cow, it was like a freaking flood. She had to jump back because she almost got soaked. She told me I definitely had a lot of amniotic fluid! Once my water was broken baby dropped to a zero station. I could not get out of that evil bed fast enough! I dont know how women labor in bed like that, it is pure hell!

I got back on my beloved ball and knew labor was serious now. My midwife didn't leave me anymore and I really had to focus during contractions. At this point I still wasn't making a ton of noise and details are a little blurry, but I do remember a few things:

- My midwife kept asking me if I wanted a drink or a cool washcloth. Neither of those things sounded helpful to me and I kept telling her no.
- I was super sweaty. It definitely is hard work. I kept getting annoyed with my gown touching my sweaty skin. I can totally see how women just rip their clothes off lol. She told me this was the part of labor equal to running a marathon in terms of energy exertion.
- I remember Jon rubbing my back and I kept hoping he was doing okay because I was in my own head at that time.
- Later, he told me he had tear in his eyes when I was REALLY in pain.
- I also remember being surprised that I felt like I didn't need anyone. I was also surprised that people talking didn't piss me off. I just tuned the world out.
- I vividly remember my midwife telling me there was going to be a point where I felt like I couldn't do it anymore and when that happens, we will have out baby.
- And I remember her telling me I was doing fabulous. She kept telling me I could make noise if I want and to keep breathing, even though I was!

Even though I felt like I was losing control, I remember thinking that contractions weren't as bad as I had convinced myself they would be. I also never had pain meds or an epidural enter my mind, which surprised me. Then I had a contraction straight from hell itself. I remember my midwife telling me it was a big one and to breathe. Then I had another one. And another. I really felt like I was starting to lose control because I involuntarily started moaning. I had no say in the matter. My body decided it had to moan lol. I remember slightly freaking out about several more hours of this. This is also when Jon was tearing up and I had no clue. I had no idea he was crying because I was off in my own little labor land. I just remember thinking, yeah, we are having a baby!

After several of these contractions from hell, I felt some pressure and I asked my midwife if I could push or what I needed to do when it was time to push since I was on the ball. She told me to push a little with the next contraction and see if it makes it feel better. It was funny because with the next contraction, my body started involuntarily pushing on it's own. She said she could see I was pushing and I told her it DID make the sharp pain of the contractions go away. But the pressure got way way worse. Then I had THE contraction. The one that made me feel like I couldn't do it anymore. I remember saying something about it sucking and pushing again. I was also moaning through them and rocking rather aggressively on the birth ball. At this point my midwife helped me off the ball and back into the bed to make sure I was fully dilated before I kept pushing.

When she first checked me she thought I had a lip on my cervix but after the contraction I was currently having she said it was all good and told me I could push with the next contraction. THANK GOD because contractions in bed are horrendous and I wanted baby OUT! I believe in total I pushed for around 15 minutes, and let me tell you, it was work! I could not help the grunts and groans that were escaping me as I pushed. The pressure was so so so intense. They kept telling me to hold my air in, but I couldn't help letting it out! I no longer had a say in it. My body took over. Turns out I am an excellent pusher but I remember feeling really tired towards the end stretch. I kept wondering if I was actually going to be able to get this baby out. I wouldn't have to wonder much longer! My midwife told me to touch my baby's hair and it made me cry(which made my eye liner run!) and I can remember hearing Jon tell me how amazing I was doing. He was excited he could see the baby's head. I remember looking up at him and seeing pure excitement in his face. I love that memory.

The next three pushes were pure hell. It wasn't as BAD as I had thought in my head, but it was intense. Pressure beyond anything I have ever felt in my life. Sandra asked the nurse to get some oil and she put that all around the baby. After those three pushes I said, " Just be born already!" And I could have cried. I wanted to cry. I felt like I was doing nothing. My midwife looked at me at one point and said, "Danielle, you felt your baby's head, you ARE pushing baby out. It's only been 9 minutes, you are doing fabulous!" That did make me feel better but I wanted this child out! I felt tired and frustrated thinking I wasn't doing much of anything. Directly after these feeling and this conversation, I felt the ring of fire. I felt baby's head be born and I just kept on pushing. No one told me not to lol and I wanted this kid out! At this point, I did not know it, but I had started tearing along my episiotomy scar from Josie and I just kept on tearing. I definitely felt it when this kid's shoulders were born. I had my eyes closed pushing like a mad woman. I wish I could have seen my baby be born, but she immediately plopped that little one on my abdomen, I pulled up my gown and savored that sweet skin to skin time. Relief. I felt so incredibly relieved.

It took me a few seconds to savor the relief before it occurred to me I needed to see what this kid was! Everyone was under strict orders to let Jon and I see what it was and say what it was and they all did a wonderful job. I lifted baby up and saw that it was a BOY! I remember yelling that it was a boy at the same time as Jon, who had tears on his cheeks. As soon as I found out it was a boy, I started bawling my eyes out. I truly thought it was going to be a girl! All I could do was stare at how sweet this baby's face was and sigh a huge sigh of relief.

That feeling of relief was pretty short lived. We DID get delayed cord clamping until the cord was white and limp like we wanted and we got our initial skin to skin, but after his initial crying, he was just calm and looking at me. Apparently his face looked bluish, but I couldn't see it. One of the baby nurses wanted to take him to a warmer to check him out just to make sure all was well. She tried to take him when he was still attached to me! So they finally cut the cord and checked him out. I asked if he was okay and they said yes that it was just bruising from the birth. Apparently he had extensive bruising, but again, I couldn't tell. They awarded him with apgars of 9 and 9 and I could hear people guessing his weight. I heard one person guess 8 pounds but he looked so tiny to me! I remember saying he was so tiny and my nurse said, "honey, he ain't tiny!" Turns out he was 8 pounds 11 ounces and 20 inches! Almost as big as his brother.

I couldn't believe I had pushed him out! And so quickly! Apparently quickly was not something in my favor. I was bleeding. A lot. And this is why my feeling of relief was short lived. I really had no idea how much blood I had lost until later - 200 ccs! I was too busy looking at my little guy, who Jon was now holding, to even care. I kept saying how cute he was and I couldn't believe it was a boy. Then pain set in. And I got really nervous. I did not want to be in pain anymore! We had to get my placenta out, so I was given some iv fluids and pitocin. Once I pushed the placenta out, blood gushed everywhere. I heard her say she thought I had a 3rd degree tear and hopefully not a 4th degree. They called their back-up OB to repair. I heard talk of cytotec(which I never got). After the initial gush, my blood loss was not from my uterus anymore. It was from my confirmed 4th degree tear. It was at this point, when the OB came in to stitch me, that my hormones took over and I started crying. I wasn't freaked out, but I did not want to feel her stitching me. I knew what a 4th degree tear meant. I asked for pain meds and was given fentenyl, which sort of helped. The OB stitching me was amazing. She told me I could have anything I wanted and if I felt any pain AT ALL then we would go to the OR and get anesthesia involved because there was no way she wanted me in any pain. She gave me 8 of morphine and lidocained the crap out of me down there. I couldn't feel pain, but I was still crying and it annoyed me. I am not a crier lol. I couldn't control it. I kept telling them I didn't know why I was crying. They kept saying I just gave birth for petes sake! It was just a bizarre reaction for me. I just kept looking at Jon and Lawson and crying and then I realized I looked like a hot mess with my eyeliner everywhere lol.

I got a catheter, 2 more bags of pitocin iv fluids and finally, I got my baby boy back in my arms. And maybe the tear was a God send, because of it, I got an extended stay in recovery with Lawson. They didn't take him to the nursery! That was the most important thing to me in my birth plan. While they were stitching me, he was super mad and hungry. Getting to nurse him for the first time melted my heart and was like a reward for all the crap. Jon got to help give him his first bath right there in the room next to me and his very first diaper was a cloth diaper.

I really could not be happier with the birth. I needed no drugs or pitocin until after the birth. I am so proud that my body did it all on it's own! Sure, the tear sucked, but even my recovery from that was fine! My SPD pain from the pregnancy hurt WAY worse postpartum. I did end up getting 2 units of blood because my hemoglobin was low but Lawson and I did just fine! He was perfection and incredibly healthy.

My Current Vitamins and Supplements

I wanted to publish a blog talking about all of the vitamins and supplements I am currently taking a why. I always love hearing about what others are taking and why, so maybe this will be beneficial to someone!

First up, I am finishing up my Rainbow Light Prenatal One vitamins from my pregnancy. I had bought a huge bottle and am finally almost done. Once those are out, I plan on taking the Fairhaven Health Nursing Blend and I am so excited about it! Keep your eyes peeled because I will be doing a review on that product.

I just adore the Rainbow Light Prenatal One though and I highly recommend it to any pregnant or breastfeeding mama. It has so much good stuff in it and doesn't cause an upset stomach. I had been taking the Rainbow Light Complete Prenatal System but it got so annoying. You have to take SIX a day. If you are good at remembering vitamins, then definitely get it because it truly is amazing. I loved it when I actually remembered to take it. Fail!

I also take Nature Made Vitamin D 5000 IU. I have been low in Vitamin D in the past, so this was recommended by my doctor. This is a pretty high dose, so check with your doctor before taking. I had gone to her with issues involving depression about a year and a half ago. I just didn't feel like myself but had NO reason to fell that way. She had blood work done, but the Vitamin D levels are an extra lab she added on and bingo. My Vitamin D was low. A couple weeks after I started taking it, I felt amazing again. Problem solved. If you are feeling mild depression, please have your Vitamin D levels checked. I live in Arizona and I still had low levels.

I am still taking the Iron that was prescribed to me postpartum. After I delivered, I lost more blood than a c-section hemorrhage - 200 ccs and needed two blood transfusions. It sounds worse than it was to me lol, I was fine, but I've been on Iron ever since. I'm not sure how long I am going to take it but for now, it's thrown into the mix.

Zinc! I cant say enough good things about taking Zinc, especially during flu season and in the winter. It is essential for a strong immune system and I take 50 mg every single day. Check out the many benefits of Zinc here, it's not just for a strong immune system!

Speaking of healthy immune systems, I always take Vitamin C! We buy a huge bottle of it from Costco and it lasts forever. Take this every single day people! It is one of the safest and most effective nutrients you can take. It protects against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, prenatal health problems, eye problems and skin wrinkling.

I also take Elderberry capsules starting around this time of year and definitely during cold and flu season. Elderberry contains a substance called flavonoids. These boost your immune system and help with inflammation. Studies have show Elderberry can cut the duration of the flu in half and it eases the symptoms dramatically.

Moving on, I always take a DHA. I happen to still be taking my Nordic Naturals Prenatal DHA, which is my favorite! DHA fatty acid is found the most in our brains and they perform better when there is a great supply of it. I take this every day for my own health and for the health of the baby I am breastfeeding. Brain development is huge before the age of 5 and I want my little ones growing strong brains by getting all the fatty acids they need.

I am nursing and pumping around the clock to boost my milk supply in order to store milk for my own baby and to hopefully donate in the future. For now, I am taking Fenugreek daily, 2 capsules a day. Now, I wont be able to donate milk containing Fenugreek, but for now I am focusing on just increasing my supply. I want to take this for a couple of months before stopping it to start pumping to donate.

The reason I am only taking two Fenugreek capsules a day instead of 6 is because I am also taking the Motherlove More Milk Plus supplement and it contains Fenugreek as wel as a few other supplements like milk thistle that are thought to act as galactogogues and increase milk production.

I take a daily probiotic for immune system health and I firmly believe everyone should take one! Right now I just take the Culturelle one.

Lastly, I just started taking the Delta Labs Postnatal Fat Burner and Lactation Enhancer. This helps burn fat that had been stored during pregnancy and also contains galactogogues to promote lactation. There is no caffeine and it is safe for nursing moms. I take one capsule twice a day.

And there you have it, my LONG list of vitamins. I also eat a very healthy and clean diet. I want my body saturated in nutrients though because so many of us do not get what we need. It is unbelievable how much you would need to consume in a day to get every nutrient you need to be super healthy.

What supplements do you take and recommend?

September 30, 2013 Daily Diary

We had quite a few things to accomplish today, which is not out of the ordinary for us. Mondays are our busy errand running days. We are so blessed that my husband does not work on Mondays. It makes it so much easier for me having him around to run errands. Today my girls had their 4 year and 2 year check-ups. We are really behind on everything because we hated our last pediatrician with a passion and hadn't found another we loved until after Lawson was born. I am so happy we found a pediatrician who is respectful of parents' choices and actually listens. Lawson has been seen there twice but my other three kids needed to get established there. That is what today's appointment was all about. Our appointment was at 10:15 am and we needed to leave here at about 9:20 to get there by 10 to fill out paperwork on the girls. Luckily we got there just in time.

Jon took Lawson and watched the kiddos while I got to work filling out all the lovely paperwork for both girls. So confusing filling out two sets of papers for girls! I almost wrote the wrong names like half a dozen times! I got it done and took Lawson while Jon dealt with Josie throwing a tantrum. He quietly took her outside to talk to her and calm her down. He has so much patience and it's one of the reasons I love him so much.

We finally got called back and both girls had fun getting their height and weight checked. Josie was extra excited and did everything they asked her to. She kept saying, "my turn!" over and over again. Violet is always trying to please and wanted to do everything perfectly. She also got her eyes checked and passed with flying colors.

Josie had not been to a pediatrician since she was 6 months old, so we had some vaccine chit chats to do. We agreed to get her 6 month shots, which we never got, since she had already had the other 2 doses of those vaccines. We did NOT get the Hepatitis A, MMR or Varicella vaccines and do not plan on getting those. We also declined the 3rd rotavirus dose. She got the shots that we felt were the most important and least reactive. Vaccines are a hot topic issue for me because I am so on the fence about them. Which choice is the right one?? This isn't clear cut for me like circumcision is. It's hard when you feel so unsure. I was so unsure with Josie that I just chose not to do anything lol. But in the end, I felt okay with her finishing the ones she had already received at 2 and 4 months old. Considering the last shots she got were 2 years ago, I think we were successful in delaying.

Violet also finished off the shots she had already gotten, which was everything. Our eyes had not been opened up to question vaccines when our 2 oldest were babies. I wish I had thought to question things. It's a serious regret of mine as a parent. This lack of knowledge is also the reason my 1st son was circumcised but my 2nd son was not. This blog post is not about that, but it's just an example of lack of knowledge. I'm not saying vaccines are the devil, there are just some I would rather not get and I think they give WAY too many to tiny babies. Violet received, DTaP, MMR, Varicella and Polio today. She will not be getting any other shots. I shouldn't have let them give the MMR and Varicella, since I don't agree with them at all, but I didn't stand my ground. I'm feeling a little regretful about it, but on the other hand, she had already had several of those shots already and the last doses were 3 years ago, so again, very delayed. I will not be getting her any other shots either. Michael, my 7 year old, will not be getting those shots at his check-up, even though Violet did get them. For one, he is not insured and for two, I'm over it. I felt sick after we left the pediatrician. I felt bullied into doing it and it just felt wrong. If something feels wrong, then I should trust that. I'm done. Lawson has not gotten any vaccines and I plan on keeping it that way. She already knows we have chosen to delay his, so I'm just gonna keep on delaying.

The girls got a clean bill of health, she said they were incredibly smart and talkative and way ahead verbally. Don't gotta tell me things I already know! I think well-checks are a crock of crap personally, but I needed to get them established somewhere in case they get sick, which they rarely do. They haven't had to go to the doctor in 2 and 3 years! Josie also got a prescription for hydrocortisone ointment instead of cream since her eczema gets so bad and was flared up today. This is another reason why I stopped vaccinating her at 4 months and I am praying it doesn't get worse and she doesn't have any crazy reactions. She is so so sensitive.

And here are the stats:

Violet - 37 pounds and 25th % for weight and 41 inches and 25th % for height. Somehow that puts her in the 50th % for her age lol. Her BMI is 15 1/2 which is 50%.

Josie - 24 pounds and 3rd % for weight and 34 3/4 inches and 25th % for height. She is my tiny little girl and always has been tiny. Not worried one bit! Her head circumference is 47 1/4 and 25th % as well. Our pediatrician said she's just tiny and she's not worried either.

We got both of their doses for tylenol and they dont have to be seen again until age 5 and 3. They want Josie to go back next month to get MMR, Hep A and Varicella, but I will not be taking her. Lawson and Michael have their 4 month and 7 year check-ups on Monday, October 14th, so that will be fun. My boys are HUGE! It's gonna be fun to see how they stack up.

After their appointment we hit up Trader Joes and I bought some of my favorite goodies:

- Coconut Oil Spray
- Dark Chocolate Covered Power Berries( To DIE For!)
- This Apple Walks Into a Bar Cereal Bars
- This Strawberry Walks Into a Bar Cereal bars (Both of these are for car trips, etc)
- 2 Packages of Pita Bread
- 2 Containers of Spicy Hummus (My guilty pleasure!)
- Trader Joes 21 Seasoning Salute
- Canola Oil
- Trader Joes Soyaki Sauce

Our grand total was $29.00. I could spend way more in there and it's probably a good thing that there isn't a Trader Joes close to me. We dropped 267.00 at Costco yesterday so we definitely didn't NEED all of these goodies. I couldn't help myself even though I only went in there for Soyaki and Canola Oil lol. Whoops!

While the kids watched Clifford the Big Red Dog on our van's dvd player, Jon and I discussed how we felt the pediatrician appointment went and what we wanted done differently next time. There will be no more shots for any of our kids. If we both were uneasy about it then that says a lot. Every time I asked Jon what he was thinking about he said the appointment and the shots. That's good enough for me to trust my gut and all of the research I've done.

I got on my phone and started looking up ways to detox from vaccines and I will do another blog post about that and what I try and what I think is most effective.

We got home, cleaned up the kitchen, took care of kiddos, I nursed Lawson several times and got the kids lunch right away. Jon had an upset belly, poor guy, so he took a cat nap. Monday nights he has school from 6-10 pm and tonight was his last American History class, so he had a group presentation and had to leave at 3 to meet up with those guys before class. We said our good-byes and I wished him luck before he had to hit the road. I love this man so much. He works so freaking hard for his family and I couldn't be prouder.

He left, I spent some time updating this blog before making the kiddos dinner. We decided on peanut butter and jelly or turkey sandwiches, grapes and carrots for dinner haha. Monday night dinners without daddy are always quick and easy. We got the whole upstairs picked up and read a few books before getting them in bed and now I am blogging and enjoying the silence. It's 9:16 and I have awhile until Jon gets home but I am going to enjoy the quiet after our long day.

How did you all spend your day? Without getting nasty, let's talk vaccines. Like I said, I am torn. I've done TONS of research and still couldn't make a decision. But I am choosing to follow my gut reaction today after leaving our pediatrician. How did others come to the no vaccine conclusion. We always called ourselves delayers since Josie but I guess we are turning a corner into no vax territory. How do you all deal with society not agreeing with your choices? Lawson has never been poked and that just feels right. He is healthy, happy and breastfed. I think nature designed us right and I'm not gonna meddle.

September 28, 2013 Daily Diary

Mama slept in this morning! Lawson and I spent Saturday morning snuggling and nursing all morning. It was great. I told my hubby I felt selfish and he told me not to feel that way! I have an amazing husband. He took on the three other kids all morning while doing his homework so that I could have some along time with Lawson. This little guy and I don't get too much one on one time since he is our fourth!

Michael had spent the night at our friend's house and had a sleepover with their son. I think it is so cute he has sleepovers playing Minecraft with his friend. He's homeschooled and sometimes I wonder if we are making the right choices for him socially, but when I see him interact with his family and friends, I know we are. He's a great kid and he has no problem making friends and playing. Anyways, we were headed over to their house today to hang out, eat dinner and have a fun time with all of our friends. One giant get together! First we had some errands to run.

We got the girls and Lawson fed and dressed and all of us ready to go. It was weird not having Michael there to get ready too! We stopped at Olive Garden to order the party salad and bread sticks to bring over since they were grilling steak. While that was being prepared, I ran into Target to get Michael a last minute thing for his birthday, cake mix, a candle, wrapping paper, and some household items like dog food and shampoo. Then we went to pick up the salad. Jon ran in to get it while I nursed Lawson in the car. The girls did great in the car, thank goodness. All of our kids do great in the car though! Never had an issue. After we got the salad we ran to Carter's to exchange a pajama I bought online. They were having a $5.00 doorbuster pajama sale online so I had ordered four pajamas for Lawson. Two of them were supposed to be 6 month and two were 9 month. I accidentally got a 3 month though instead of two 6 month! Luckily, I just ran in and exchanged the sizes with no issues.

After those errands were done we got on our way to our friend's house. We just adore hanging out with them and always have fun. Our friend Zeb loves to take pictures and he was going to be taking 3 month photos of Lawson as well as a shot of all 4 kids laying in a circle on the ground. We may have to redo that group shot, we will see. I need to get it done by October 18th though because we got a groupon for a canvas photo and I want it to be of that. I cannot wait to get that ordered and in the mail. Speaking of groupons, we also bought one for 1/2 off a science center membership and I am so excited to take the kids! If you haven't checked out groupon, you just HAVE to. Check out my referral link here. We always get the best photo gift deals and with Christmas coming up, they make the perfect gifts for family.

Jon was trimming Michael's hair with clippers before their picture and he accidentally cut him when Michael wouldn't stop tipping his head. Poor kid was in tears and really upset. I hope that didn't ruin haircuts for him! We had so much fun taking pictures and Lawson was a smiley, happy baby like always. He did a great job. After pictures, we listened to music and grilled up some steak! I also brought salted caramel cupcakes and they were freaking good!

We always stay over there until midnight and this night was no exception. Our kids all passed out with their three kids and we got to enjoy some adult time hanging out. It was wonderful and so relaxing. Parents need fun in their life too!

This is pretty much a typical Saturday for us and these guys are seriously our family. We love them and cant wait to get together with them again for Michael's 7th birthday!

September 25, 2013 Daily Diary

Today was a slow start for the Conner family, but we were determined to make it a good day. Michael woke up with a headache. This is a normal occurrence for him and something I am concerned about. He turns 7 on October 10th and has his 7 year check-up October 14th and I cannot wait to bring this up to his pediatrician. I am hoping it's nothing and that he just inherited his mama's migraines. They seriously suck. Has anyone else ever had to deal with headaches and their little ones?

His headache had him miserable and whiny, so I resolved not to stress out. We will get done what we can get done. Don't sweat the small stuff, right?

We spent the morning watching cartoons while I pumped for Lawson. I've been on a mission to increase my milk supply and recently purchased a Medela Pump in Style. I am in love with it! Lawson has also been eating like crazy the past couple of days, so I am hoping that helps boost things as well. Supply and demand! I've also been taking 2 fenugreek capsules a day. I've never taken this before and it's not something I want to stay on since I cannot donate milk while taking it. I really cannot wait until I am at a point to be able to donate milk as that is something I have always wanted to do.

Homeschool was successful, although I didn't get everything done that I wanted to. That's the beauty of being able to homneschool my kids though. We live our life, and today life consisted of a headache. Instead of lots of work we needed lots of laugh and fun.

We worked on history, lots of math, reading and a craft project. I absolutely adore these craft kits. The ones my kids are doing in the pictures scattered in this blog post are from Carefree Crafts. They send you new craft kits every month and they are super affordable. Speaking of crafts, I recently placed a giant order with Oriental Trading company and it came today! yay!

The rest of our day consisted of mama cleaning up and starting dinner, Lawson nursing every hour and napping all day(hello growth spurt!) and my big kids playing outside. Their laughter melts my heart. It's the little things, like jumping on a trampoline, that really matter. I am truly blessed being a stay at home mom.

After outside play came dinner, baths for all the kiddos, bedtime stories and bed. I always stay up far too late enjoying the silence and planning my next day. Anyone else stay up entirely too late?

I think we DID succeed in making it a good day, even if it was super simple. Sometimes we need days like that.

Nuby Mommy Blogger: Rhythm Dual Action Breast Pump and Sanitizer Kit Review

Breastfeeding. Just the simple mention of the word opens up a whole new world of motherhood. When I first started breastfeeding my first child six and a half years ago, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I knew I needed nursing pads and that was about it! We had received some gift cards from our shower and I decided I NEEDED a breast pump. Everyone told me to get one and so I figured I had to have one. We went to Walmart and bought literally the cheapest electric pump there. I don't think it was more than $30.00. I thought I was getting a killer deal and was so happy with how cheap it was. I didn't look into it's functions at all. Like I said, it's easy to get overwhelmed as a first time mom, and especially with breastfeeding thrown into the mix. There are so many products out there geared towards breastfeeding moms that its hard to figure out what you really need and what you don't. Lets just say I used that breast pump once, hated it and never used it again. I went on a tirade against all breast pumps. I told everyone they were worthless. Little did I know, it REALLY depends on the pump.

Over the years I have added two more gorgeous kids to my family and have had the opportunity to borrow and try out a few different breast pumps and I have nothing but great things to say now. They are SO handy. I am so glad my mind has been changed about breast pumps in general because I think every breastfeeding mom needs one in their baby arsenal.

I was recently sent the Nuby Rhythm Dual Action Breast Pump and Sanitizer Kit for review as part of the Nuby Mommy Blogger program and I am blown away with all the features of this pump. I had no idea that Nuby even made breastfeeding products. More people need to know about them and I am here to spread the word about how wonderful they are! Lets talk about each feature of the pump first and then I will talk more about my experience.

Here is the electric pump with personalized programing unit attached.

I have never seen a pump come with a sterilizer before! I was so thrilled this pump included one.

Here is a close up shot of the 5 ounce natural nurser nipple. I love how it looks so much like a real nipple.

Here are the battery pack and adapter to plug it into the wall.

This pump also comes with a stand to set the pump in so it wont tip over, as well as the manual breast pump hood and handle.

They also throw in 6 of their disposable nursing pads, which I happen to adore!

Here is a close up shot of the pump in manual mode. I love that you don't have to use it in electric mode. Sometimes a manual pump is all you need. And it is super easy to switch out the parts.

Included with the pump are spare parts. These suckers are easy to lose, so I am glad they threw in extras!

And you also get the instruction manual and the hygienic cover for traveling.

Here is a full on shot of the pump in manual mode.

I could not be more thrilled with this breast pump. It blows the first pump I ever used right out of the water. I mean, there is no comparison. With the Rhythm pump, I have options. I can use it as a manual pump, I can use batteries or I can plug it in. I love that it fits my needs as a stay at home mom. I don't need a heavy duty double pump. And I love that it fits into my budget! For everything you get, this pump is a steal. Right now, it is listed at $77.09 with free shipping on amazon.com.

Not only is it versatile and affordable, but it works like a charm. I prefer it in manual mode right now. I am currently nursing my 25 month old and am due in two weeks with baby #4. I have only used this pump to express a little for my older child and it has worked amazingly well. My milk supply is not what is should be right now since I am getting ready to start a new breastfeeding journey, but I am able to pump a good deal of colostrum to freeze with no issues. I think it is pretty impressive that I am able to get as much colostrum as I have with this pump only in manual mode. Because I am so close to my due date, I have not been using the electric mode, but I did try it out a couple of times when I first received the pump and it has excellent suction and power. It is completely programmable to what you need at any point in breastfeeding. I love that it's not just a dial that you have to figure out which is fast and which is slow and there really is no in between mode. My first pump was that way and it was horrible. It either did not work or it hurt! With this pump in electric mode, there is no worry of it hurting you. You are in charge of the strength and speed. Lately I have preferred it in manual mode because its so user friendly and more portable. Granted, you can use this pump with batteries and be just as portable.

The Rhythm pump is also very easy to clean. With my first pump, I was buying micro steam sterilizer bags to try to get all the pieces super clean. It was a huge pain having to buy those bags. With this pump, that is not even on my radar. It comes with it's own sterilizer and it is very roomy. I love how I can fit all the parts I need in it with absolutely zero issues getting it closed. The pump pops apart with no problems and all of the pieces are also very easy to put back when everything is nice and clean. I'm usually an idiot when it comes to these kinds of things and I had no trouble at all putting everything back together when I was done. If you do have trouble, the handy instruction guide clearly shows you what is what.

My favorite feature of this pump has to be its ability to customize and store your own personal pumping rhythm. It has a fast flow and a slow flow. Some women need a faster rhythm and some need a slower rhythm. Whatever pumping speed you need, you can set the pumps programing unit to remember your own combination of fast and slow. The next time you need to pump all you have to do is push a button and the work is done. I love that it takes all the guess work out of pumping. Once you figure out just what you need to get the most milk, you don't have to try to remember it. This pump remembers for you and is a blessing for us busy moms! Pumping takes enough time as it is. I didn't get to use this feature a ton, but I am thrilled to get to use it again with my little one due any day now. It's going to be a lifesaver for me having four kids at home! I also just adore that all of the pieces in this pump kit are BPA free.

The Rhythm Pump is such a blessing in my life. We are unsure what we want to do about tandem nursing two kiddos and I love knowing I can express my milk not only for the new bundle of joy I am about to welcome, but also for my older child. I can pump and put my milk in a sippy cup for her. Having this option available to me in such an effortless way is just a God send. I know I wouldn't be willing to do this if I had to use a horrible pump that killed my nipples every time. It's a weight off my shoulders knowing this option is available to us if Josie needs it. It is also a huge relief knowing I can build a freezer stash for baby #4 to have on hand if anyone else needs to feed him or her. I know I will be using breastfeeding friendly bottles that are also really easy to clean. The bottles and nipples that come with this pump are extremely user friendly. This does not surprise me, since everything about this product line seems to be. There are no complicated valves or pieces to mess with and I love that!

Want a Rhythm pump of your very own? Your best bet is to purchase on amazon.com. It is also available at www.buybabydirect.com, www.kohls.com, and www.idealbaby.com.

I love how available they are on so many different social media websites. If you have a question for them, ask away! They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

I want to say a huge thank you to the lovely folks over at Nuby for allowing me to review the Rhythm pump and participate once again in their Mommy Blogger Program. This program has been nothing but fun for me and a huge eye opener. Like I said, I had no idea Nuby even produced pumps! I am so thrilled I get to help spread the word about these amazing products.
