The Gyre

Okay, so I have known about the horrific Gyre for quite some time, but there may be many of you who have no idea what it is and I am here to tell you and show you!

That is PLASTIC! The Gyre is a vortex of swirling currents that draws garbage, but mainly plastics, into an area in the Pacific(between California and Hawaii) roughly twice the size of Texas! There is six times more plastic floating around in there than there is plankton! Plastic doesn't biodegrade folks and is a BIG reason why I hate it sooooo much! My big gripe is that I have only known about this for 2 or 3 years, but it has been known about for a decade and apparently, talked about. Why didn't I learn THIS in school?? Another plus for homeschooling!

Why am I talking about all of this so suddenly? Because of this:

A 2nd garbage patch: Plastic soup seen in Atlantic

It is truly heartbreaking. Look at what we are doing to our planet. Don't use plastic grocery bags, when buying in bulk, bring your own reusable containers. Choose reusable produce bags. Don't use disposable anything! Check out my Earth Day articles coming up for amazing alternatives to the items you think you can't live without!

  1. That is so sad! I wish so badly that I wasn't a plastic junky!!! Thank goodness I have you to show me the light! I absolutely love what Chico Bags came up with, about the Bag Monster! It made me feel terrible! That gyre thing is disgusting! When I get plastic bags from the store, I do NOT throw them away, I never have! WE just have enormous enormous piles of them that we need to recycle!!! They are my throw up bags though and that is the only time I have ever thrown them away... Sorry Mother Nature and Sorry for TMI!
    Love ya girl! Great Post!
