Green Genius Review and Giveaway

Going green and finding products that are eco friendly are the reasons I wanted to start this blog. I wanted to help others find the same products I wanted in my life. I really hope I have accomplished my goal and it's companies like Green Genius that have helped me achieve it over and over again. I have always been concerned about the effect of garbage bags filling our landfills. Plastic will NEVER decompose. Every single piece of plastic that has been made is still hanging around and contributing to horrible circumstances like the North Pacific Gyre.

When I found out that Green Genius makes biodegradable plastic garbage, storage and freezer bags, I was literally giddy. Over the past year I was trying to figure out how to not use garbage bags. I thought maybe we could just dump the garbage directly into the cans, but that would make a horrible mess. I started using plastic freezer containers to store food in rather than freezer bags, but sometimes I prefer the bags! As far as sandwich bags go, we switched to wax paper bags, but my Husband complains that they make his sandwiches dry out. Sometimes a plastic bag is the right fix, but I hate adding to the plastic issues we already have! Green Genius has taken my worry away and I can use plastic bags without stress!

For review I was sent a sample bag of their tall kitchen bags and a sample of their freezer bags.

Green Genius Tall Kitchen Bags (Biodegradable Plastic)

They feel just like regular trash and freezer bags! I was impressed and blown away. I thought they might be thinner or poorly constructed, but you would never know the difference. The secret is EcoPure, which turns their bags into food for microbes. Instead of taking thousands of years to decompose, these bags break down in 2 to 15 years! That is a remarkable improvement. Not only are the garbage bags tough, they are made with 40% recycled plastic and the food bags have a minimum of 15% recycled plastic! Made from recycled plastic and they biodegrade, yes please! I am sold and in love with Green Genius.

Not only do they made Kitchen Garbage Bags, but they also make Outdoor Garbage Bags. Along with Freezer Bags, Green Genius also makes Sandwich & Snack bags and Storage Bags!

Check out Where to Buy for locations near you! You can also purchase Green Genius items online. A box of 30 biodegradable garbage bags will run you about $9.99, which is very comparable to standard bags. In my book, there is no comparison though, Green Genius wins and other bags can take a hike! Any little thing I can do to help this Earth, I do, and I am thrilled to have found these bags.

Check out the short video on the Green Genius Website to see how the plastic bags biodegrade!

  5. Green Genius is biodegradable because of an additive in the plastic that allows microbes to break it down. Great giveaway-- everyone could always use more garbage or freezer bags!

  7. I learned that they "combine their plastic with a proprietary additive called EcoPure that bonds organic “nutrients” to the plastic’s molecular structure. The addition of this additive allows the plastic to be eaten by microbes, making the whole bag biodegradable."

    Very, very cool!

  17. I learned that Microbes begin feeding on the nutrients, and the plastic begins to break down into simpler organic matter like sugars, fatty acids and amino acids.

  29. i learned about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This garbage patch, known scientifically as a "Gyre," is essentially a giant plastic trash island floating in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Estimates claim that it is twice the size of Texas, and anywhere from 3 to 300 feet deep - that is super scary!!!
